  • "Mathematics incorporates literacy of all types, including: numeric, verbal, and visual. In this course, participants will combine the use of well written children's literature with good mathematics instruction to improve students' comprehension of mathematics and literacy. Participants will review children's literature and create lesson plans to incorporate these books and stories into their grade appropriate classroom instruction. The participants will review articles which explain this type of instruction, and share their reviews and lesson plans with one another through constructive discourse."

  • During this class, you will become familiar with the term “inclusion” and what it means in the world of today’s teaching. Learn to incorporate strategies into the planning of teaching in inclusion classrooms. Explore using graphic organizers, note-taking strategies and various assessments to create an environment accessible to all learners. Discover visual techniques to reach visual learners. At the end of the course, participants will have access to a reference guide.
  • Class-to-class videoconference collaborations are gaining momentum as schools across the country (and the globe!) become increasingly enthusiastic and savvy about real-time, interactive videoconferencing. While just being able to see and talk to a distant class can be exciting at first, the thrill fades quickly unless the students are engaged in a collaborative activity. This course is designed to introduce participants to class-to-class collaborations—what makes a successful videoconference collaboration, what are the roles of teachers and students, how are activities and materials created for a videoconference collaboration, how do teachers find distant teacher-partners, how do teacher-partners facilitate a collaborative videoconference, and more.

  • This course is designed to help you learn to differentiate your math curriculum in order to reach all levels of learners. We can choose to differentiate the content, the process (method taught), or the outcome (product). We will examine specific multiple intelligences based on Gardner's research and apply them in the math classroom. Some of them will include: visual (spatial), verbal (linguistic), logical (mathematical), musical (rythmic) or body (kinesthetic). Participants will share lessons and ideas throughout the course so that each participants will have the opportunity to build on each other's creativity.
